Where will you work? Bagram Airfield, Kandahar Airfield and Kabul Metropolitan Area, Afghanistan.

Is there a clearance required? ACTIVE DOD SECRET REQUIRED

What type of equipment will you use? Diagnostic and test equipment relevant to trade, Lifting devices, Materiel handling equipment. Employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas. Such PPE includes but is not limited to head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision and hearing protective devices. Must comply with OSHA, EPA, Fire Regulations and published Company work rules.

Working Environment & Physical Activities:

  • Shop and field environment; May be required to work an irregular schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to work in extreme environmental conditions including dust and high temperatures.
  • Must be able to continue performance during hostilities.
  • Estimated travel within theater is 60%.
  • Must be able to lift 25lbs continuously, 50lbs intermittently. The work environment is often fast-paced and at times requires exposure to high heat and humidity.
  • Will need to protect extremities and ensure proper use of PPE due to work environment.

Must be able to:

  • Must possess and demonstrate in-depth knowledge and ability to perform maintenance on power generation equipment to include engine, Alternating Current (AC) alternators, electronic controls, electrical wiring, and accessories.
  • Must possess and demonstrate skill in load testing, all calculations that must be done, and safety measures.
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of primary distribution centers (PDC) and secondary distribution centers (SDC), and proficiency in proper maintenance of all generators in the government inventory including commercial prime power plants, backup / emergency generators, above ground storage tanks and secondary containment associated with the generators, and other assigned power production equipment to include light carts, air compressors, start carts, engine driven pumps (engine only) and shop support equipment.
  • Maintain and adhere to technical orders and manufacturer recommendations and standards for maintenance actions, which include: ordering parts, installing, programming, calibrating, troubleshooting, testing, modifying, converting, and repairing electrical generation and distribution systems (from the power plant(s) up to and including the PDCs).
  • Demonstrate knowledge of: principles of electronics and electricity, including generation, conversion, transformation, distribution, and utilization; types, capacity, and purpose of low voltage circuits, circuit breakers, switches, fuses, regulators, relays, instruments, and meters associated with electric generation and distribution; interpreting instrument and meter readings; wiring diagrams, schematics, drawings and technical publications; techniques of operating and maintaining internal combustion engines, Generators, generating plants, distribution panels, and accessory equipment; use and purpose of test equipment; safety rules and practices; environmental policies; principles of management; and operation and repair of electrical power production systems.
  • Demonstrate experience with operating and maintaining generators ranging from 5 to 2,500 kilowatts.

How do you qualify? 

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Secret clearance.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience.
  • Prefer US military training in power generation and electrical job fields. 91D
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to interpret and apply manufacturer repair manuals, technical specifications, schematics, engineering drawings, and diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge in electrical theory and a deep understanding of power equations.
  • Prefer graduate of an accredited diesel school.
  • Vocational training preferred.
  • Certification by power generation equipment manufacturer (e.g., Cummins, FG Wilson, etc.) preferred.
  • Ability to fluently read, write, and speak English.
  • Experience working with diverse cultures and various trade skills in an austere, hazardous environment preferred.
