Summary of essential job functions:

The Mechanical Coordinator role is crucial in ensuring that our field project operations meet or exceed our clients' expectations for mechanical systems construction, commissioning, and operation. Michael Baker Global Services is looking for a passionate, self-motivated individual who brings an eagerness to learn, grow and contribute to the success of our international projects.


Plans, develops, coordinates, and helps manage the electrical program as it relates to design management and material procurement.


Roles and responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with project managers regarding project mechanical material purchases, shipments, and overseas routing to project site
  • Support Project Managers and Supply Chain Coordinator regarding delivery dates, any overages or damages incurred in shipments and completing purchase
  • Monitor international shippers/freight forwarder regarding specialized mechanical shipments
  • Ensure compliance with project budget by maintaining cost control of all materials and equipment purchased.
  • Monitor warehouse receipts against purchase orders to verify the materials and manage backordered items and assist Procurement with problems or issues
  • Coordinate with mechanical field superintendent and staff on schedule, progress and technical needs
  • Tracks projects from design inception through completion to include all changes in design.
  • Issue Purchase Requests and Purchase Orders
  • Manage material procurement in coordination with field and design needs
  • Review project contract documentation for compliance with project requirement, including construction contract requirements, specifications, and drawings
  • Ensure proper documentation for progress, project closeout, and change conditions throughout entire construction phase
  • Oversee design development for Design-Build projects
  • Carry out Value-Engineering and Constructability Studies
  • Carry out Life-Cycle Cost Study Analyses
  • Carry out Construction Contract Administration; including submittals, request for information, change orders, operation & maintenance documentation, etc.
  • Develop Bill of Materials for mechanical scope
  • Work with Director of Pre-Construction regarding change orders and estimates
  • Review design development documents for compliance with project requirements.
  • Perform quantity surveys and estimates based on project plans and specifications.
  • Prepare and issue bid documents to prospective vendors and subcontractors seeking pricing information. Evaluate pricing information for best value and specified product Supply Chain Coordinator prior to awarding contract.
  • Manage computer-assisted drafting team for coordination of utilities and layouts
  • Coordinate vendor start-ups and commissioning
  • Analyze processes to ensure efficiency and correct as needed
  • Training other employees in logistics and procurement processes
  • Ability to write complex reports in a clear and precise fashion
  • Excellent document editing skills
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and provide concise analyses
  • Ability to travel approximately 15 percent of the time
  • Skilled in use of Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) and other common business software
  • Excellent command of verbal and written English language
  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance and pass background / drug testing as a condition of employment

Minimum qualifications and education requirements:

  • US citizen with ability to obtain Secret clearance
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or Related Degree or (15) years in the industry
  • Minimum five (10) years of mechanical construction experience
  • Experience in highly technical Department of Defense or Department of State projects
  • Experience leading a successful DOD, COE, NAVFAC, or DOS projects
  • Experience with international projects
  • Commissioning and Balancing experience
  • Instrumentation and controls experience
  • BIM/3-D modeling experience


Preferred qualifications:

  • LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with Oracle Unifer, or willingness to take training classes where necessary.


Physical requirements and working conditions:

  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance
  • Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust and focus.
