Where will you be working? Bagram Airfield, Kandahar Airfield and Kabul Metropolitan Area, Afghanistan.


What materials will you use? Vacuum Pump, Refrigerant Scale, Multi-Meter and Voltage Tester, Manifold Gauge, Refrigerant, Power Drill, Tube Cutter, Oxygen, Acetylene, Torch Kit for brazing, essential hand tools, Gas powered pressure washer and safety equipment.

What will you do?

HVAC technicians perform field and sustainment level maintenance IAW applicable TMs and the Original Equipment Manufacturers' (OEM) specified maintenance procedures. This includes ensuring routine preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) being performed monthly. Maintain and repair Trane, Carrier and Alaskan package units (5-10 Ton). BARD, Liebert and Marvair wall mounted units (2-5 Ton) units. Chigo Mini split units (2-5 Ton).

  • Perform inspection, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems, and other tasks as identified.
  • Identify needed equipment & materials.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC system components following the appropriate checklists.
  • Respond to emergencies repairs of HVAC systems.
  • Perform services on HVAC systems/equipment by numerous manufacturers including Trane, Carrier, York, Samsung, and numerous others
  • Respond to unanticipated emergencies, minimizing any disruption to ongoing activities.
  • Perform maintenance, repairs, and testing of existing systems, at a minimum, to the requirements of current versions of; ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers), manufacturers' recommendations, OSHA, and other safety regulations.
  • Tested repaired equipment to ensure operation within manufacturers' design parameters.

Working Environment & Physical Activities:

  • Shop and field environment; May be required to work an irregular schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to work in extreme environmental conditions including dust and high temperatures.
  • Must have the ability to wear a respirator for long periods of time.
  • Required to observe all safety and health requirements for field assignment.  
  • Must maintain a professional appearance/attitude, consistent with local customs and company policy.
  • Must be able to continue performance during hostilities.
  • Estimated travel within theater is 60%.
  • Must be able to lift 25lbs continuously, 50lbs intermittently. The work environment is often fast-paced and at times requires exposure to high heat and humidity.
  • Will need to protect extremities and ensure proper use of PPE due to work environment.

What you need to qualify: 

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Active DOD Secret clearance.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience.
  • Prefer US military training in power generation and electrical job fields. 91C, 3e1XX
  • Ability to interpret and apply manufacturer repair manuals, technical specifications, schematics, engineering drawings, and diagnostic tools.
  • Must hold a current EPA-approved CFC Universal certification for high and low-pressure refrigerants, and must be familiar with/be able to comply with regulations governing the use of CFC refrigerants.
  • Vocational training preferred.
  • A graduate of a State approved/accredited or military program that provided formal HVAC Journeyman level instruction, training, and certification/licensing preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to fluently read, write, and speak English.
  • Prior military experience preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse cultures and various trade skills in an austere, hazardous environment preferred.
